January - Behaviour Curriculum Bulletin
Afternoon all,
I cannot believe we are into the 3rd week back at school after the Christmas Break. January is certainly starting to feel like it has more than 31 days!
The end of the Autumn Term saw lots of celebration and recognition events in form time, assembly and the ATL trips out to the Electric Palace. The end of term also gave students another opportunity to 'Own It' and really reflect on their achievements, attendance and behaviour across the term. All students spent time in an extended form time focusing on their own personal review and target setting cycle and they will revisit this again at the end of the Spring Term.
We have stepped straight into the Spring Term with our fantastic Dance Show last week and the 'Annie' rehearsals in full swing for the musical performance in the last week of the half term. We have two performances - 11th and 12th February - tickets are already on Parent Pay for purchase. Linked to this we are also on the hunt for some props for Annie. If anyone has any of these items that they don't use anymore or doesn't mind us borrowing we would be really grateful! Please send anything in via reception.

We also had our termly Fire Evacuation Drill last Friday so there are no other planned drills for this half term. The next drill to be aware of will be our Internal Lockdown which we will practise in March. More details will be sent in advance as we always want our students to be prepared for the process.
As always our Behaviour Curriculum can only be delivered when students are on site with us. We have had an increased number of parents asking about NHS guidelines on absence linked to illness over the winter months. I have therefore attach a one page NHS guide linked to this and further information for further advice visit the below link or call 111 or your GP surgery.https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/is-my-child-too-ill-for-school/
Progress Leader; A quick word:
Miss Bradshaw - "The teaching of our assembly last week, shared traditional New Year’s resolutions are increasingly being replaced by the "Ins and Outs"! Social media trends are showing that people are moving away from self-judgment and more towards self-understanding with purposeful (intentional) choices. So how can our Year 7 navigate 2026 with purpose? I would like our students to use this format as a compass for personal alignment and growth . For students to leave behind the habits that no longer fits them (Outs) no more staying silent in the classroom because you are afraid of being wrong, leaving homework until the last minute, giving up at the first hurdle or being hard on yourself when things go wrong. Through self reflection, changes can take place (The 'Ins') foster curiosity - asking 'Why?" or "How?", put your phone in another room to give your brain the space to focus, develop grit and resilience to find the solution , choose kindness as well as develop high quality 'own' time to develop hobbies like reading, sport or coding for self development. So over the new term Year 7's will be encouraged to engage in self reflection to navigate their aspirations ."
Miss Garcia - "As we reflect on last term, I would like to share how incredibly proud we are of our Year 8 pupils. We ended the term with a wonderful celebration assembly, recognising their many achievements, including positive behaviour points and commitment to extracurricular activities. This was followed by an unforgettable Christmas karaoke finale, which truly captured the brilliant energy, confidence and sense of community within the year group. Since being back, we have already been impressed by the maturity and positive attitude of our year group and we hope this continues in the weeks to come."
Mrs Honeyman - "It has been a pleasure to welcome Year 9 back to school so positively. Students have returned ready to learn. The calm, mature manner in which they have settled back into routines has been a real credit to them. This term is a particularly important one for our Year 9 cohort. Students will continue to strengthen their learning habits, develop greater independence, and begin preparing for the transition into Key Stage 4. High expectations around attendance, punctuality, behaviour, and effort remain central to our work, and we are grateful for your continued support in reinforcing these expectations. We are also looking forward to beginning the options process next month. This is an important and exciting stage as students start to consider the subjects they may wish to study at Key Stage 4. We encourage students to approach this process thoughtfully by asking questions, listening carefully to staff guidance, and discussing their choices at home. Finally, it was wonderful to see so many students enjoying the cinema trips and the Christmas quiz at the end of last term. These events were a fantastic way to celebrate and reward students for their positive attitudes and behaviour. Thank you for your ongoing support. We look forward to a successful and positive term ahead."
Mr Day - "It was a pleasure leading the reward trip to the Electric Palace before Christmas with the Year 10 students demonstrating everything positive about our students with their behaviour and respect for the historical building and its volunteers. Students will be visited this half term by some local colleges for them to hear about what they offer. The students gain knowledge early to start making choices for Year 11 applications."
Mrs Abbott - "A brilliant and informative assembly from Suffolk One delivered to the year group last week, outlining another excellent Post-16 destination that our students can apply to study at. The significant number of our students in Year 11 have two applications or more into Post-16 providers, ensuring they have a range of opportunities and choices for the next stage of their educational journey."
Thank you as always for taking the time to support your young person with their education everyday, we are all in this together and all have the same end goal for our young people to be healthy and successful. Maybe you could ask them about something they have done at school that is mentioned in this bulletin, or something they are looking forward to that is coming up? We know good character and conversation skills being modelled from all adults in their life is always a positive thing for them. If you have any ideas or questions please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly.
Kind regards,
Charly Doyle
