Update from the Headteacher 13th May 2020

Written by Belinda Gosling on . Posted in Archived News

Dear Parent/Carer,

I hope that you and your loved ones are well and that you are adapting well to your child learning from home.  Students are coping really well with the situation and I really enjoy the emails sent to me, showing me work that has been completed, telling me about books that have been read or just dropping me a line to stay in touch.  We will be sending out reports at some point this term so you will have an overview of how your child has been engaging with the work set and how they are progressing.

I know that you will be feeling anxious right now about the reopening of schools.  Government guidelines are currently that years 7, 8 and 9 will continue to learn from home with their work being set and marked by their usual class teachers.  Guidelines for year 10 and 12 are less clear at the moment.  Some ‘face to face’ teaching before the summer holidays is how the government is describing the provision for year 10 and 12.  I want to reassure you that I am currently working with the Sigma Trust to ensure that any return to school is safe for both students and staff.  There are many adaptations that have to be made to the school building and routine before any return can take place.  The safety and wellbeing of the students is always the priority and great care will be taken to ensure that everything is in place to keep our students and staff well.

Any reopening of the school will not be sudden, as a parent, you will have plenty of notice.  I am interested to know whether you will allow your child to return to school this side of the summer if it were to be a possibility. I will soon be sending out a brief questionnaire to year 10 and 12 parents only to seek your views.  In the meantime, I have sent out a survey about the work your child is receiving, for all year groups and I look forward to reading your returns.

Please remember that all school staff are still working and so can be contacted if you need support with anything.

Please take care, stay safe and stay alert.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Finch

Netflix is arguably the most widely used and best known video-on-demand (VoD) streaming service in the world. It’s extensive library of films and TV shows can offer endless hours of entertainment and, in the current climate, it’s a great way to kill some time whilst keeping safe at home, providing both child friendly and more adult-themed programming. That’s why we’ve created this guide to help parents and carers understand exactly what Netflix is all about.
