Sports Champion UK – 28th March 2018

Written by Stephanie Laimbeer on . Posted in Archived News, Creative Arts And PE

Olympic hopeful, Junior British Record Holder, Commonwealth Silver Medalist in the triple jump, Laura Samuel visited HDHS. She can ‘hop skip and jump’ over 14m.

Laura visited the school as part of a ‘Sports for Champions’ initiative. Over 300 pupils took part in a sponsored circuit in the sports hall. All students took part in the circuit with enthusiasm and hard work. Monies raised will go towards improving the school PE facilities and helping future athletes like Laura with training, equipment, travel etc

The PE department would like to say a huge thank you to all who took part, you were a credit to the school. A further thank you for raising over £900.

Laura was amongst the students hoping to inspire, motivate and unleash a new champion of the future. After the circuit, students were able to ask Laura about her training schedule, her diet, her future aspirations and even if she had met Usain Bolt. The students enjoyed the opportunity to hold a real Silver Commonwealth Medal.

Inter-Community Swimming Gala – 21st March 2018

Written by Stephanie Laimbeer on . Posted in Archived News, Creative Arts And PE

A very successful Harwich and Dovercourt Swimming Gala took place Wednesday 21st March.

51 students representing the four communities took part in a fiercely fought competition with races of all strokes over 25m.

Cheered on by fellow swimmers, Community staff and a good number of parents, friends and relatives, all the students did themselves proud.

6 new school records were set for 25m races with some students beating the time they had previously set themselves last year.

The main success of this event was that for the first time every event had four swimmers in. A real indication of the sense of identity and passion the students have for their Community.

A massive thank you to the officials who gave up their own time to help with the event, the staff at Dovercourt Lifestyles and Harwich Community Primary for forfeiting their swimming session to allow this annual event to take place

Final result

Alhambra 47
Versailles 42
Windsor 39
