Year 7 Rugby Final
April 27, 2016 hdhsadmin

The Year 7’s finally got to play their Rugby final at Colchester Rugby club. They were drawn against Thurstable in their play off final game. Harwich started the game strongly with excellent organisation skills from Alex Ashworth and Joe Sewell. Harwich took the lead within 4 minutes with Reagan Constable making superb ground before Joe Sewell taking the ball over the line. This was quickly followed up from Ioan Woodward who scored a excellent solo try. Again more excellent pressure and tackling from Joe Henderson and Harrison Hunt turned possession over and provided Ioan Woodward with another try. In the second half Harwich eased off slightly which allowed Thurstable to gain some good ground. Dan Logie and Morgan May inspired the team for one final push which resulted in Liam Atkins powering his way through with 2 players hanging off him to score his first ever try.

Harwich 20-0 Thurstable.

This means HDHS made it into the final where they were drawn against Stanway who previously beat Colne. The game started extremely competitively with Alex Ashworth, Harry Pitham and Joe Sewell making some great tackles. In and end to end contest it was Harwich who almost took the lead when Alex broke the line but was caught just short. This lead to Stanway taking the lead through the countries 10th quickest 100m under 13 runner. This was then followed up with 4 more tries for Stanway from the same player. Harwich tried their hardest to stop the ball reaching the player but ultimately this proved difficult. Harwich were the better Rugby team, making excellent tackles and gaining vital ground. It was the Stanway player who changed the game in their favour scoring or making all of their tries with his pace and power.

Harwich 0-25 Stanway

Player of the day- Joe Sewell

This was a great first season for all involved within the Year 7 Rugby team. In their first season together they went unbeaten in the coastal league. Won a play off game to get the finals. In total they scored 53 tries and conceded 7. Well done to all involved.
