12 Year 9 students were given the opportunity to follow a week long course at Dovercourt Fire Station. During this time the group of girls and boys learned skills used by regular fire fighters such as ladder, hose and first aid work. The course not only provides opportunities linked directly to the job but perhaps more importantly they learned about respecting each other, the importance of communication, following instructions and work as a team to meet a goal.
The group had a very enjoyable week, if not a little cold and wet with the dip in temperatures last week. This was followed by a passing out parade on the final afternoon where parents and staff were able to see the results of their efforts in a practical method.
The students should be congratulated for their efforts.
